IMPLEMENTATION OF ICT-BASED DELIVERY MECHANISMS FOR AGRO-CLIMATE SERVICES IN TAJIKISTAN

The activity on “Implementation of ICT-based delivery mechanisms for climate services in Tajikistan” is being implemented within the framework of the project “Building climate resilience of vulnerable and food insecure communities through capacity strengthening and livelihood diversification in mountainous regions of Tajikistan”. This project is funded by the Green Climate Fund and is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, WFP and the Neksigol group of companies.

Focus Area The main goal of this activity is to improve the resilience of communities by increasing their access to climate information, weather forecasts, and early warning and improve their response to climate changes and shocks.
Objectives To support these goals, this project will contribute to achieve the following key objectives:
(1) Establish of ICT-based mechanisms for the timely delivery of climate information and agro-advisory
(2) Delivery of climate information and agro-advisory to the project target farmers
(3) Facilitate coordination amongst information providers regarding producing relevant information for the project target farmers

Coverage — 4 districts of GBAO: Rushon, Shugnon, Roshtqala and Ishkoshim

Key activities — Establishment of ICT-based mechanisms for the timely delivery of climate information and agro-advisory
— Delivery of climate information and agro-advisory to the project target farmers
— Facilitate coordination amongst information providers regarding producing relevant information
— Development of an Early Warning System for subsequent handover to the CEP and MoA
Expected Results — At least 25 000 farmers receive climate information
— At least 4 programmes are designed and broadcasted on national TV
-At least 8 programmes are designed and broadcasted on national Radio
— Early Warning System handovered to the CEP and MoA
